Your business has Instagram. So why are you still short on customers?

Why a website isn't a luxury or an alternative to social media, it's the only channel that reaches all your customers, regardless of age.

You have Instagram. You post often. You've built up followers. And yet, in high season, you feel like something's missing.

The problem isn't Instagram. The problem is that Instagram reaches a portion of your customers. The other portion, which isn't small, isn't there.

Every social network has its audience, and it's not everyone

The 2025 data is clear. Each platform concentrates a different age group, and none of them covers everyone:

Age groupTikTokInstagramFacebookYouTubeGoogle
18–29 years✅ Very active✅ 80%Low✅ 95%✅ Everyone
30–49 yearsModerate✅ 55%✅ 80%✅ 92%✅ Everyone
50–64 years❌ 10%❌ 30%✅ 72%✅ 78%✅ Everyone
65+ years❌ 5% daily❌ 19%✅ 56%✅ 70%✅ Everyone

The Google column doesn't change. It's the only channel where every group is represented, and where everyone goes when they want to make a decision.

The 50-year-old customer doesn't discover on Instagram, they search on Google

The 45, 55, or 65-year-old adult doesn't open Instagram to look for where to have tea or where to eat on Saturday. They type it into Google. Always. It's their first and only move.

And the data confirms it: adults aged 45 to 54 generate 14.65% of Google's total traffic. Those aged 55 to 64, another 10.85% on top. That's more than 25% of all searches, a quarter of your potential customers who won't find you if you don't exist on Google.

Young people end up on Google too

Here comes the most surprising data point: 70% of users who discover something on social media end up searching for it on Google before deciding.

A young person sees your shop on Instagram, gets interested, and the first thing they do is search for it on Google to check the address, the hours, the reviews, whether it has a website. If nothing shows up, most of them move on.

Social media generates interest. Google turns that interest into real customers.

Why Instagram can't replace a website

Instagram gives you reach. It doesn't give you control.

The algorithm decides how many people see your content. You can't show up in Google searches from an Instagram profile. The important information, menu, hours, address, prices, is buried among photos. And if Instagram changes its rules tomorrow, your digital presence disappears with them.

A website is yours. It shows up on Google when someone searches for what you offer. It has all the information organized where the customer needs it. And it doesn't depend on any algorithm.

The website doesn't compete with social media. It completes it.

The best scenario isn't choosing between Instagram and a website. It's using both for what each does well:

  • Instagram: you show the product, generate desire, gain followers.
  • Website + Google: the ones who want to go find you. The ones who hesitate get convinced.

Without a website, you're leaving out all the customers who don't use your social media. And in local businesses, food, tourism, crafts, that group is usually exactly the one that spends the most.
